Saturday 8th July 2017! It's Small Press Day! It's Pocket Geek convention at Gateshead Library!

Paper Jam will be celebrating the former by being at the latter!

Check out some top quality comics and art from Brittany Coxon, En Gingerboom, Paul Thompson, and more – including Paper Jam’s latest team anthology The Amazing Adventure Comics Machine …And That. In addition to having wondrous things for sale, we’ll be demonstrating our verbosity (or just making fools of ourselves) taking on the Anime Attacks crew in another session of daft panel game ‘Just A Comics Minute’, and we’ll be running collaborative drawing games throughout the day, hoping for participation from everyone – whatever your level of experience, everyone can do comics!


Of course, there's tonnes of other varied interesting stuff afoot at Pocket Geek - Gaming! Anime! Cosplay! Workshops! Including one on visual narrative by En, which is sure to be superb:

WHAT IS HAPPENING?

The Paper Jam Comic Collective is ten years old.

Our new anthology - the Amazing Adventure Comics Machine - which will be A4 and in full COLOUR (a first for our anthologies) is almost ready. More info soon.

Paper Jam at York GeekFest

This Saturday the Paper Jam Comics Collective will be at York GeekFest. How cool is that?

You'll find us in the Exhibition Centre at the University of York. Table 9 - Saturday only.

We'll have our latest anthologies and a few good rare finds from our archives, including the now very limited and thematic Halloween and that. Wooo.

But, you're reading this on Sunday or a date even further in the future? Well, you can get our comics sent to you in the post. We've now got an online shop, all our currently in print comics are available there. This is truly the digital age of delivering paper comics to your door. Yes.

The Paperjammening No.2

Did you know it's Small Press Day on 9th July? Well, it is! What is it? Basically a good excuse for comic shops to run events highlighting small press comic creators.

This seemed like an ideal time to run an event something like The Paperjammening micro con we ran in November. So that's what we're doing. It's imaginatively titled The Paperjammening No.2.

10.30am-4.30pm, Saturday 9th July, downstairs at Travelling Man Newcastle, free.

Come and meet a load of talented yet approachable artists! Join in with daft drawing games / art jams! Party party party (in a small press comics kind of way)! Support DIY comics!

Britt Coxon
Britt makes paper cut art, greetings cards, web stuff, photos. Sometimes even comics. Likes collaborative drawing activities and will most def be taking part in these. More info about Britt Coxon here.










Emma Catan
Emma is a writer, gamer and RPG geek, who makes various crafted items and jewellery. Using seed beads and hama beads to create pixel art-based celebrations of geek culture. More info about Emma Catan here.









En Gingerboom
Non-binary queer storyteller with an interest in philosophical and societal issues. Draws aliens, humans, more aliens, space ships, animals, some more aliens, obnoxiously British locations, and other good stuff. Recently I also drew some vampires. Or one vampire specifically. My sci-fi comic Twenty Thirty Three, and my vampire comic Rel El will be available on the day! More info about En Gingerboom here.

Emily Rose Lambert

Emily is a full time greetings card designer based in Newcastle. Along with weaving, needle felting and occasional blogging, she mostly spends her free time making comics which often feature elements of folklore, mythology, nature and pattern. She is one-third of the Big Brown Eyes Collective (formed with her sisters) who create collaborative comics and zines. Her work can be found in various anthologies and she has been named as one of '6 small press creators to watch in 2016' by Broken Frontier. More info about Emily Rose Lambert here, here and here.

Oscillating Brow

Draws rather small comics like the Tales of Extraordinariness series (crime-solving vigilantes, TVs with moustaches, dance battles in space, heartache, demonic cake-baking, etc) and The Device. Will also be official representative for Alexi Conman & Terry Wiley's The Sloper Gradient (or: the story of the world's first sequential art superstar and a potted history of the birth of comics), and Analogue Press' music-themed Radio On anthologies (the second of which, Mr Brow contributed to). Al Summerscales
All the way from Shakey Wakey, Al is here to sell small comics about sad, dramatic people doing mundane things and other comics that try their best to break the Comedy Barrier. Likes long walks on the beach, fluffy hamsters, and losing at video games. All purchases come with a *FREE* handwritten note with my email address on. More info about Al Summerscales here.

Paul Thompson
Paul writes, draws, edits and provides designs for a number of anthologies as well as occasionally producing his own comic Tales of the Hollow Earth. He was most recently seen curating and an exhibition and book of monsters called Invisible Beasts. More info about Paul Thompson here.

Andrew Waugh

Scottish illustrator and cartoonist. Selling copies of his science humour book A Bunch Of Amateurs and kids' horror anthology Die! BOO! Die!, as well as his Little Portrait cult movie prints. More info about Andrew Waugh here.

James Wilkinson

I'll be selling zines full of flash fiction, real life stories from diverse people, dada poetry, and ponderings on the nature of love. More info about James Wilkinson here.

All day, there'll be art jams and collaborative drawing games running (and we want ALL of you, whether you draw like Rembrandt or can just about manage stick figures, to get stuck in).

Oh what's this then?

Yes! It is a free micro comic con happening on 21st November, downstairs at Travelling Man, featuring the fine works of the Paper Jam Comics Collective!

And it will see the release of the twelfth PJCC 'And That' anthology - Happy ...And That, a lo-fi A6 papery lump of joy about things that Paperjammers like.

Twenty four pages for just £1 - what a bargain!

PJCC at Sunderland Comic Con

Breaking news! The Paper Jam Comics Collective will be representing at the inaugural Sunderland Comic Con this weekend - 21st/22nd February.

We might even have copies, hot off the press, of our latest food-themed anthology..........

Hi-Ex Aftermath

Hi-Ex was, as you’re surely aware by now, the place to be last weekend.

Organised by artist Vicky Stonebridge and writer/editor Richmond Clements, Hi-Ex has gained a reputation for being one of the friendliest Comic Conventions in the land.

The Paper Jam Comics Collective had a table there for the first time, donated by Paul Scott of OmniVistaScope and Solar Wind fame. He couldn’t make it, we could. We will give him his table cloth back in the fullness of time.

As well as all five issues of OVS, our table consisted of the following:

• Anthologies: Robots ... and that, SpaceMonkey ... and that.
• Gary Bainbridge: Night Bus, Gainger Town
• Oscillating Brow: Tales of Extraordinariness, Cat
• Ben Clark: Spine Chillers
• Jack Fallows: Big Bang
• Paul Thompson: Tales of the Hollow Earth
• Andy Waugh: Coupledom, Melanchomic
• Terry Wiley: Verity Fair

We sold some of the above. It looked like this:

More importantly, we met some fantastic people, attended some excellent panels, drank some beer and contributed to the various jam comics going round the hotel bar in the evening. I've never seen so many comic fans and professionals in a single Chinese buffet before.

Mad props to everyone we met and all the good people selling their wares, especially to Dave Evans (Bolt01), titan of UK small press science fiction anthologies, who was selling bucketloads of Futurequake and Zarjaz to the 2000 AD-hungry crowd, many of whom had traveled across the Cursed Earth itself to attend.

The panels were all intimate, informal and good fun. Thanks to Stacey Whittle (Small Press Big Mouth) and Terry Martin (Murky Depths) for looking after our wares while the PJCC attended a few of the talks.

The panels we saw covered the Horror Genre in comics, a Charity Auction, the quite, quite mad Scottish Falsetto Sock Puppet Theatre Company, the enduring success of 2000AD and an audience with the Legend Cam Kennedy. There was a lot more, and the PJCC didn't get near the Judge Dredd Role Playing area, which we'd wanted to.

A weekend just wasn't enough to be honest. Thanks again to Vicky and Richmond. The days were just packed.

Thought Bubble 2009 (Part Two)

The Paper Jam Comics Collective are back from the Leeds Thought Bubble convention, having sold lots of comics and chatted to lots of people.

As well as the stall minded by Waugh, Bainbridge and Thompson (which sounds like the worst legal firm ever)...


...there was additional representation on stalls from Jack...


...Ben Clark and Terry Wiley. Add to this the support of non-exhibiting group members Daniel, Lily, Ian Mayor and Oscillating Brow, and it's clear that PJC were out in force.

Thought Bubble 2009

The PJC collective will be out in force at the Leeds Thought Bubble convention on Saturday 21st October. Manning the stall and selling their goods will be Andy Waugh, Gary Bainbridge and Paul Thompson, with support/derision from Jack Fallows (who'll be manning his own table) and Mike (who'll be running the Travelling Man table). Collective member Terry Wiley will also have a table somewhere in the area, adding to an already formidable North East contingency.

This will be the convention debut of our newest anthology Space Monkey and will also be a chance for people outside of the North East to pick up copies of our previous titles (providing stocks last). In edition to these, there are exciting individual titles to pick up. Jack and Gary are both launching new works - the first part of Jack's new series The Big Bang and Gary's new tome Grainger Street. Meanwhile, Andy has two new comics - including the TB exclusive Blether - and a painting (or two) to sell. All this, plus the usual titles from the collective and friends.
