You Need A Holiday ...And That

Life, eh? Been getting you down? Same old thing day after day? You know what you need? A SELF-PUBLISHED COMIC ANTHOLOGY FROM NEWCASTLE'S FINEST COMIC-MAKING ART COLLECTIVE!

The Paper Jam Comics Collective's latest masterpiece has arrived, just in time for summer. You Need A Holiday ...And That is an anthology that features insightful experiments in sequential art on the theme of needing a holiday from: K. Ben Clarke, Brittany Coxon, Michael Dodsworth, Mike Duckett, Daniel Fitzgerald, Steve Flanagan, Emma Friel, Michael Gonson, Lauren Matthews,  Oscillating Brow, Sara Qaed, Paul Thompson, and James Wilkinson.

The very first opportunity to obtain this wondrous tome will be at the Make & Print Market at the Grainger Market this Saturday (29th June, 9am-5pm). There'll be loads of other cool and interesting self-produced art of various types, so come and check it out.

Then! 13th July, in honour of Small Press Day, we'll be having our 'official launch' at the Canny Comic Con Summer Comics Jam event at Tyne Bank Brewery. There'll be ALL the finest locally made comics, collaborative drawing games, street food, beer, DJs - everything you could want from a laid back Saturday afternoon/evening. (13th July, 12pm-12am).

We're making the good decision to launch this beauty at the lovely Tyne Bank Brewery art/vinyl/comics market on Saturday (21st October) from noon.

Amazing Adventure Comics Machine ...and that

It's true: our fourteenth anthology, in glorious full colour, is now out in the wilds.

The Amazing Adventure Comics Machine ...And That is our second foray into comics aimed specifically at kids (the first being the classic, and now out-of-print, Space Monkey).

This time we have a loose theme of 'adventure' (and perhaps 'mind-bending metaphysical comic-creation' too).

Featuring stories by Anton Brand, Brittany Coxon, Cuttlefish, Hannah Potter, Jenny Coxon, K. Ben Clarke, Mike Duckett, Oscillating Brow, Pauline Holland, Paul Thompson, and Terry Wiley.

Paper Jam at York GeekFest

This Saturday the Paper Jam Comics Collective will be at York GeekFest. How cool is that?

You'll find us in the Exhibition Centre at the University of York. Table 9 - Saturday only.

We'll have our latest anthologies and a few good rare finds from our archives, including the now very limited and thematic Halloween and that. Wooo.

But, you're reading this on Sunday or a date even further in the future? Well, you can get our comics sent to you in the post. We've now got an online shop, all our currently in print comics are available there. This is truly the digital age of delivering paper comics to your door. Yes.

Ready to Launch

Our shiny new anthology, Making ... and that, arrived on Monday. It's got comics by Al Summerscales, Oscillating Brow, Britt Coxon, Brett Halliwell, Michael Duckett, Jamie Wilkinson, Cuttlefish, Paul Thompson, Sigmund Reimann, Anton Brand and Terry Wiley. It's proper exciting, we have photographic proof.

 

This anthology will be available for the very first time at the Maker Faire this weekend at the Centre for Life. The Maker Faire is a celebration of makers who make things, to get into the spirit of things we thought we'd have a go of making our own display for the comics.

It might need a little tidying up but it looks smart with the comics in it. Cardboard speech bubbles next.



So, where can you find us at the Maker Faire? We're in zone D, which is up the stairs, overlooking the Life Cafe. Come and learn how to make a mini comic and add to our giant Maker Comic!

The Maker Faire runs from 10-6 on Saturday the 23rd and 10-5 Sunday the 24th April in the Centre for Life, it's always full of amazing, fun and interesting things. Highly recommended by the Paper Jam Comics Collective.

24 Hour Comic

Organised by Martin Newman, members of the PJCC will expand our 24 remit beyond the 24 minute comic and once more take part in 24 Hour Comics Day .

From the 09h00 on the 2nd of October to 09h00 on the 3rd of October, we will suffer once more, but we will prevail, we will have 24 pages of comics, each, in 24 hours.

"Art...And That" Launch - The Aftermath

A little late, I know, but here is a rundown of the recent launch of our newest anthology Art...And That.  The outside-funded anthology marked a new way of us producing work and the launch party followed suit, taking us away from the pub and into the art gallery, exposing our work to a new clientele.

And so, a few Fridays back, the majority of the PJCC camped off to the DLI Museum & Art Gallery in Durham, where the exhibition What Are You Like? was officially opened and previewed to invited guests.

Complimenting this was, of course, the release of our specially-commissioned anthology, as well as the unveiling of exhibitions by the local illustration group Set Of Drawers...

...and a temporary base for collection of the Salford Zine Library (which amongst its works features titles by PJCC members Jack Fallows and Andy Waugh).

Amongst all the wine, networking and sophisticated art appreciating, there was also a large-scale group game of Pictionary - appallingly attempted by nominated PJCC representative Andy.  After this, the evening's entertainment relocated to Empty Shop HQ for a special exhibition by their in-house artist group The Freebirds, poetry readings and an interactive exhibition by the touring Beermat Show.

All in all a cracking night.  It was truly an honour and a privilege to be featured alongside such talented folks.  A big thanks goes to the DLI for having us and our friends at Empty Shop for funding the anthology.  The exhibition runs until the 5th of September and there are copies of Art...And That for sale there while stocks last.

Art...And That Launches (with more added fun!)

As we've already mentioned a million times already, our latest anthology - the specially commissioned Art...And That - is being officially launched this Friday (the 23rd) as part of a huge series of art events in Durham, over two venues (click for maps) - the DLI Museum & Durham Art Gallery (6pm-8pm) and Empty Shop HQ (8.30pm-10.30pm) - and encompasing:

EGO - A Celebration of Differences

Daniel, Britt, Jack and Paul attended the EGO festival in Durham, sold some comics, met some lovely people and presided over a lot of young people drawing comics, courtesy of Jack and Daniel's Comic Book Workshops who now have a blog! Some very interesting, original and occasionally alarming characters and situations were devised.

Art...And That - Deadline Reminder!

Art...And That is coming together nicely - we have a cover now, courtesy of Mr. Gary Bainbridge.  And isn't it gorgeous?  Thanks Gary!  If you want in on the project, you've got but 10 hours left to e-mail your submission to Andy . Less if you want to submit a hard copy at the next meeting (6.30pm tonight).

To give you a flavour of the competition, here is a little sampler of some of the submissions thus far...

As has been the case with the last two anthologies, the quality of work on show has gone from strength to strength.  Well done to everyone who has already submitted, and to those still working on theirs - consider this a challenge!
